SoundPipe is a University of Virginia spin-out developing an ultrasonic drug delivery platform that uses an ultrasound device and ultrasonically activated drug-loaded particles called microbubbles. Our first product, PenelloTM, is an ultrasonic catheter system designed to increase the durability of angioplasty in critical limb ischemia patients below-the-knee addressing an annual estimated market of $1B for which there are no FDA approved solutions. SoundPipe has been awarded over $3.5M in non-dilutive NIH & NSF SBIR funds, built a functional Penello prototype and drug-loaded microbubbles and spoken with over 65 customers about Penello. A pilot animal study published by our team demonstrated the Penello technology’s ability to make angioplasty durable in the coronary arteries.
