Mal-ID operates under the philosophy that, in the age of AI, nobody should die of visibly detectable diseases. These include melanoma, and oral cancer, the latter of which kills 24 people per day in the US, 200 per day in India, and many more across the globe. We see these deaths as unnecessary, as the precancer and cancer lesions that cause them can be spotted by an experienced specialist, or a well-trained algorithm. Mal-ID is paving the way to automated cancer detection by first attacking the problem of oral cancer in India, where ~$1.5B is spent on late stage treatments per year. The data collected and algorithms developed will have transformative applications beyond this beachhead market.
